Most people you meet are exactly who they say they are. These habits help with the few who aren't, and they make first dates easier too.

Before a first date.

A little planning makes a first date calmer for both of you. Nobody decent will mind.

First date checklist

  • Meet somewhere public and busy, like a café.
  • Tell a friend where you're going and who you're meeting.
  • Get there and home on your own.
  • Stay clear-headed. Go easy on the drinks.
  • Keep your phone charged and with you.
  • Leave whenever you want. No explanation needed.

Red flags don't always look red.

Scammers can be charming and patient. Watch for these patterns, however nice the conversation feels.

  • They push to move the chat off Passion Match very quickly.
  • Big feelings and big promises after a few messages.
  • There's always a reason not to video call or meet.
  • Any request for money, gift cards, crypto or an “investment”.
  • Links to sites you don't know, or asking for a code you were sent.
  • Their story keeps changing, or their photos look like a magazine shoot.

    Asking for money

Never send money to someone you haven't met.

Not for a plane ticket, a hospital bill or a sure-thing investment, however good the story is. Some scammers chat for weeks before they ask, so a long chat doesn't make it safe.

  • Keep chats in the app

    Stay on Passion Match until you trust someone. Your phone number can wait.

  • Guard the everyday stuff

    Your home address, workplace and daily routine are for people you know well.

  • Go slow with names and socials

    Your full name and Instagram reveal a lot. That's why your shareable link only ever shows a blurred photo.

  • Check they're real

    A short video call before you meet is normal. A quick image search can reveal borrowed photos.
